About Our Classes
Types of Classes
We teach food preserving (canning, fermenting, curing, drying, freezing, etc) and other basic, traditional foodskills - like how to use a whole chicken, prepare dried beans, or make bread.
Our seasonal class schedule changes frequently, and can be tailored to your specific needs and interests. Check out our Class Menu for more info on what is currently offered.
Our classes are offered in either the comfort of your own home or at our kitchen headquarters at 3117 34 Ave SE Calgary, where we currently share a commercial kitchen with Brenda Pierson Catering. Either way you choose, we provide all the supplies and ingredients necessary for the class, giving you a carefree learning experience.
We believe that it's most fun to learn about food when in a group. Our minimum class size is 3 people. Our maximum for in-home classes depends on how many people comfortably fit in your kitchen, and we can accommodate up to 10 in our kitchen headquarters.
Reserved classes follow the tradition of Caffe Sospeso, or Suspended Coffee, originating in Naples, Italy, which allows for anonymity between a donor and recipient of goodwill, and protects generosity, altruism, pride, and the experience of life beyond hardships. Purchasing a reserved class means that Preserve Foodskills can offer a class at another time to someone who may not be able to afford their own class but would likely greatly benefit from the learning. Part of Preserve Foodskills' triple bottom line (people, planet, and profit) as a socially-purposed local business, reserved classes are one of the ways we try to help connect the dots in our local economy.
